Prior Endings Bested by This Year's Beginnings at the Illinois Intercollegiates

Monday, September 23 2013 - Illinois Intercollegiate Championships - Blake DeLong

Blake DeLong finished just ahead of last year's conference time and season best (24:57) and just 9 seconds off of his lifetime best (24:44) to open up his season with a time of 24:53! He finished 3rd at the Illinois Intercollegiates hosted by Olivet Nazerine. Blake looks to continue to improve throughout the season as he prepares for 10 kilometers of racing at the regional cross country meet in Wisconsin. Hannah Inyart led our women with a time 18:50 for the 5 kilometer course, finishing in 12th place overall. Her effor is a lifetime personal best and McKendree's fastest female time in over 10 years for that distance. The McKendree women's team clocked the fastest team-time ever recorded of 1:37.33 for the first 5 finishers. Several other life-time bests were accomplished by Senior Megan Doty, Freshman Karis Johnson, Senior Lauren Ewart, and Junior Christine Cunningham. Kaitlyn Schutt (FR) finished 5th for the bearcats behind Inyart, Doty, Johnson, and Ewart. Her time of 20:09 was just 1 second behind what McKendree's fastest runner opened up with last fall.

Erick Korir (SO) followed Blake DeLong with a time of 26:11, besting his last year's fastest time and was followed by some outstanding racing of our two redshirt freshman Moses Randich and Dylan Hartley. Erick Requadt and Michael Butler rounded out the men's team.

Look for the bearcats on September 28th to compete at Maryville University.
