FINAL RESULTS
(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 8)—The McKendree University women's track and field team kicked off the indoor portion of its 2014-15 season by hosting the McKendree Early Bird Meet Friday in Elsah, Ill.
The Bearcats had eight athletes turn in top-five performances during the day-long meet that was held on the campus of Principia College. Two sophomore sprinters –
Nicole Dentzman (Springfield, IL/Lanphier) and
Lashawntianna Brown (Chicago, IL/Northlawndale College Prep) – placed in the top five of two events to lead the way for McKendree. Dentzman was second in the 60-meter dash (8.11 seconds) and third in the 200-meter dash (26.98 seconds). Brown collected fourth place in the 60-meter race (8.20 seconds) and fifth in the 200-meter event (27.80 seconds).
Senior
Hannah Inyart (Belleville, IL/Belleville East) notched a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:45.36. In the 600-meter run, sophomore
Karis Johnson (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) led the charge for the Bearcats as she placed third with a time of 1:41.30. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Schutt (Benton, IL/Benton) was close behind in fifth place at 1:44.77.
In field events, freshman
Mollie Bowman (Sullivan, IL/Sullivan) was second in the long jump with a leap of 5.12 meters, and freshman
Ciara Jones (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) was right behind in third place with an effort of 5.05 meters. Rounding out the list of top individual finishers for McKendree was sophomore
Cortesha Spencer (East St. Louis, IL/East St. Louis), who was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 10.30 meters.
McKendree also won the 4 x 400-meter relay at the Early Bird Meet with a combined time of 4:21.55. Dentzman, Jones, Schutt and sophomore
Tori Fulgham (East Alton, IL/Roxana) teamed for the victory in the event for the Bearcats.
This was the only scheduled meet in the first semester for the Bearcats' 2014-15 indoor track season. McKendree will compete again on Jan. 16 at the Illiana Invitational in Romeoville, Ill.
