(LEBANON, Ill., March 1)—McKendree University junior
Cameron James (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) put on quite a performance Sunday during the final day of action at the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.
James continued the Bearcats' claim to the "Fastest Man in the GLVC" moniker by winning not one but two sprints in finals competition on Sunday. James rolled to the championship of the 60-meter dash with a winning time of 6.82 seconds, then less than an hour later captured top honors in the finals of the 200-meter dash at 22.16 seconds. James was the lone McKendree student-athlete to win an event at this year's GLVC Championships. James hit an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark once again with his time in the 60-meter dash.
In addition, it marks the third consecutive year that a McKendree sprinter has won the 60-meter crown at the GLVC indoor meet.
Jordon Henderson (St. Louis, MO/Cardinal Ritter) won each of the last two titles for the Bearcats.
Buoyed by James' first-place efforts, McKendree finished sixth overall as a team in the final standings for the GLVC Championships. The Bearcats registered a total of 58 points over the two days.
McKendree claimed two scoring positions in each of the races won by James. In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Deonte Andresen finished fifth in the finals with a time of 7.11 seconds. In the 200-meter race, junior
Donovan Friscia (Jacksonville, FL/Bartram Trail) grabbed sixth place in the event with a final time of 22.84 seconds.
The Bearcats also had two individuals place in the finals of the high jump. Freshman
Alex McCrite (Tamms, IL/Egyptian) was second in the event at 2.00 meters, while fellow freshman
Eric Imel (Chicago, IL/Schaumburg) was next in third place at the same height.
Freshman
Ryan Pearce (Villa Grove, IL/Villa Grove) hit an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark with his second-place showing in the shot put. Pearce cleared a distance of 15.92 meters with his best toss on Sunday.
McKendree's 4 x 400-meter relay team registered a third-place finish overall in Sunday's finals. The quartet of junior
Moses Randich (Eldoret, Kenya/Chebiemit School), sophomore
Grayson Horton (Crest Hill, IL/Joliet Catholic), and freshmen
Alexis Palmer (Parkland, FL/Nova) and
Christopher Jackson (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) combined for a time of 3:25.28, which was less than two second off the winning time posted by Lewis University.
Andresen opened the scoring for McKendree during Saturday's competition in the GLVC Indoor Championships with his sixth-place performance in the long jump.
