(Lebanon, Ill., Dec. 11) – The McKendree University track and field teams competed in a pair of meets this weekend sending a partial squad to the University of Indianapolis Friday evening before sending another group of athletes to Pittsburg State University on Saturday.
Sophomore
Quincy McSweeney (Eureka, IL/Eureka) set a personal best and broke a McKendree school record after running the fastest time in Division II this season in the 800-meter Saturday with a time of 2:10.16. McSweeney broke the record set by Shernett Davis of 2:10.91 back in 2000 at the Cannon IV Invitational.
The Bearcats sent five men's athletes to Indianapolis highlighted by sophomore
Joe Shannon (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) who placed sixth in the 3000-meter with a time of 9:08.19. Junior
Benjamin Richter (Troy, IL/Triad) and sophomore
Tyler Manion (Granite City, IL/Granite City) took home second and fifth place showings in the men's 5000-meter with times of 16:03.27 and 16:27.09 respectively.
The women's team sent four competitors and were paced by senior Nikki Dentzman who took home a pair of top ten finishes after placing fifth in the 60-meter with a time of 8:13 before capturing an eighth place showing in the 200-meter with a finish of 27.04.
Freshman
Cydney Collins (San Diego/La Jolla Country Day School) and
Hanna Toepper (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) each earned top ten spots in the shot put with Collins placing seven after a throw of 10.82-meters and Toepper coming in right behind her after a toss of 10.67-meters to finish eighth.
The Bearcats hit six NCAA Provisional National Standards on Saturday in Pittsburg, KS.
Sophomore DeMontez McCray paced McKendree on the track placing sixth in the 400-meter after hitting a provisional standard with his time of 48.52 seconds. Sophomore
Tyree Allen (Country Club Hills, IL/Hillcrest) also brought in a top ten finish after placing ninth in the 200-meter with a time of 22.32 seconds.
Junior
Ryan Pearce (Villa Grove, IL/Villa Grove) won the shot put with a throw of 16.87-meters, which hit a provisional standard..
Senior
Karis Johnson (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) placed eighth in the mile run with a time of 5:27.87.
Junior
Ciara Jones (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles after finishing in 9.14 seconds.
The Bearcats 4x400-meter relay team also took home a top five showing after McSweeney and sophomore Tatianna Nieves, junior
Jordyn Looman (Centralia, IL/Centralia), and Shayna Phillips put in a team time of 3:56.63 to place fifth.
In the field sophomore
Shelby Mourey (Greenfield, IN/Eastern Hancock ) finished fourth in the high jump after posting a height of 1.63-meters.
Ciara Jones (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) landed her second top ten finish of the day in the triple jump placing fifth after a distance of 11.18-meters.
Senior
Cortesha Spencer (East St. Louis, IL/East St. Louis) rounded out the top ten finishes for McKendree taking seventh place in the shot put with a throw of 12.14-meters.
The pair of meets wraps up the semester for the Bearcats, as McKendree won't return to action until the end of January.
