Men capture their seventh straight conference championship; women take third at NSIC Championship

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Glen Ellingson won his first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Individual championship and led the Augustana men's cross country team to their seventh consecutive NSIC Championship by placing three runners in the top-five.  The women's team looking to win their seventh conference title in eight years fell short with a third place finish.

"I thought the men ran real well" Head Coach Tracy Hellman said. "Our top three guys had really outstanding performances. To win our seventh straight conference title is a great testament to our history of success. [Glen] Ellingson ran an outstanding race to win his first NSIC Championship, he took the lead and never was outside of the top pack the whole race."

Ellingson finished with a time of 25:49.9 on the 8,000 meter course. Following Ellingson, was Keegan Carda who continues an impressive season with a second place finish with a time of 25:57.2. Harald Karbo made his Vikings season debut with a fourth place finish clocking in at a time of 26:05.6.

Nick Larsen and Logan Burns both placed inside the top-20 with Larsen coming in 19th and Burns placing 20th, with a time of 26:58.7 and 27:02.9. Jonas Gjesdal placed 33rd with a time of 27:34.2. Shane McCallum came in 44th with a time of 27.53.9.

The women's team accumulated 73 points to take third place, trailing University of Mary and Minnesota Duluth, who took home the NSIC Championship.

"Our women ran a tough race in a very tight women's race." Hellman said. "Our whole women's team will perform much better as a whole in our next race."

Augustana had three girls finish in the top-15 starting with Leah Seivert, who was the highest finisher for the Vikings placing second with a time of 22:13.7. Mackenzie Kelly with a strong NSIC Championship debut, finished in ninth with a time of 23:03.8.

Annie Kruse came in 12th with a time of 23:20.9. Ida Eltervaag placed 23rd with a time of 24:05.6, followed by Annika Rotvold coming in 27th with a time of 24:21.2. Courtney Hottovy came in 38th with a time of 24:46.1. Carly Bauer placed 55th with a time of 25:15.2.  

" I thought both teams had good performance at the conference championship." Hellman said. "We were a bit flat in a few spots but we will get those fixed and have a better team results."

Augustana will next compete in the NCAA Regional Championships in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 7.
