Girls - Carroll County Championships

Wednesday, October 25 2017 - Carroll County Championships

What.  A.  Race.  2 Liberty girls and 2 Winters Mill girls led the first mile fearing to let each other get away from the lead.  Eventually it was Kathryn Hopkins who had to drop slightly back from the lead pack but close enough to take a solid 4th place finish.  After one of the Liberty girls took a commanding 5 second lead during mile 2, it felt like the tide could be turning but Makenzie Hopkins didn't give up.  She slowly reeled the leader in, and with a little under a mile left to go, made her move.  She didn't look back as she was able to take home the individual Carroll County title by 10 seconds.  Liberty proved to have too much depth for us to pull off defending our crown from last year.  Dellaney Georgiana and Brianna Mays were able to finish 9th and 16th respectively for 2nd team All-County honors.  Casey Jillson finished the scoring for the Falcons in 18th while Annie Kartalia and Allie Cullison also finished strong.  The team was able to score only 48 points which was good for 2nd place after winning the title with 39 points last year.  The expectations are high with no graduating seniors for this team.
