Sycamore High School - DeKalb, IL -- Afton Forest Preserve

Location:  The meet will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Afton Forest Preserve.  Directions can be obtained by using the address 13998 Crego Road, De Kalb, IL.  The De Kalb County Forest Preserve has agreed to host Sycamore cross country meets at Afton Forest Preserve.  The Forest Preserve has made a number of accommodations for this to work.  They have asked for our cooperation with two items:

1). When races begin, no spectators or athletes warming up are allowed east of the river.  Each team will be issued a pass allowing one representative (Coach or Manager) from each of the girls and boys teams to cross the bridge.

2). All garbage must be picked up.    We are hopeful that Afton Forest Preserve will be our home course for many years to come.  Please help us with these two concerns.

Participating Teams:  DeKalb, Geneseo, Kaneland, LaSalle-Peru, Morris, Ottawa, Rochelle, Sterling, Sycamore and Yorkville.

Bus Parking:  All team buses will park in the second parking lot.  Attendants will assist with bus parking.

Spectator Parking:  Spectators will park in the first and third parking lots.  When these are full, spectators will park on the right side of the gravel road.  The left side of the gravel road must remain clear in case an emergency vehicle would need to get through.  Attendants will assist with spectator parking.

Team Camps:  Please set up camps along the start/finish straightaway, back away from the course.

Team Packets:  Team packets with timing chips can be picked up at the start/finish pavilion upon arrival.  Coaches are responsible for returning the timing chips to the start/finish pavilion after competing in their final race.  There will be a coaches meeting at 8:45am.

Athletic Trainer:  There will be two athletic trainers onsite.  One on a cart trailing the field during races.  The other will be at the start/finish pavilion.  Additionally, EMT’s will be stationed at the bridge.

Course:  A 1000m start leads to a 1.75 mile loop.  After completing the 1.75 mile loop, athletes will run the 1000m start in reverse to reach the finish line.  Additional course maps will be available on arrival.  With the exception of a wooden bridge and a 20 foot section of blacktop, the entire course can be run in grass.  There is a 300m blacktop path.  Athletes may run on the blacktop or in the grass on either side.

Awards:  Varsity team champions will receive a plaque.  Varsity runners 1-18 will receive a medal.

F/S runners 1-18 will receive a ribbon.  Open runners 1-14 will receive a ribbon.
