Cross Country to Host John McNichols Invitational on Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The men's and women's Indiana State cross country teams will host the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday for their lone home meet of the 2021 campaign.
 
AT THE STARTING LINE
The John McNichols Invitational will take place on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Competition is slated to begin at 9 a.m. ET with the men's 8K race while the women's 5K will start at 9:45 a.m. Live results will be found at TimingMD.net.
 
ON THE COURSE
In addition to Indiana State, 12 schools will be competing at the John McNichols Invitational, including Lansing Community College, Western Michigan, Ball State, Rose-Hulman, Evansville, Maryville (Mo.), DePauw, Indiana, Vincennes, Madonna, Indiana Wesleyan, Eastern Illinois, Purdue and Huntington.
 
VETERAN LEADERSHIP
During the first meet of the season at Evansville, a pair of seniors led the Sycamores on the course. Jocelyn Quiles was the top finisher in the women's 5K, placing seventh behind an effort of 18:08.2 while Cale Kilian led the way in the men's 8K, crossing the line in eighth with a time of 25:58.3.
 
THE LAST TIME
The last time Indiana State hosted the John McNichols Invitational, all eyes were on Terre Haute. LaVern Gibson welcomed many top-ranked schools, such as Northern Arizona, Stanford, Iowa State, Purdue, Arkansas, Washington and more. The Sycamore men placed 13th as a team while the women ended in ninth.

658 DAYS
The Evansville Opener marked 658 days since the last time Sycamore cross country competed on the green after opting out of the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference Championship. The last competition prior to that for Sycamore cross country came at the 2019 NCAA Great Lakes Regional where the women, led by Brooke Moore, placed 24th as a team.
